We have arrived at the bustling city of Leon, which is a bit of a shock after the more sedate and smaller Granada. I found it interesting after getting used to a place and its layout that moving to a new place where I don’t know the landmarks to get to the hotel is most unsettling.

The mini bus ride from Managua to Leon was comfortable enough and I passed the time chatting to a Dutch woman who had been performing ecological research in Costa Rica and had done a lot of independent travelling in Central America. She slept often in her own hammock to avoid bed bugs.

Last night our guide, Estevan, took us to a Leon bar where a band was playing. They were good, playing a reggae influenced soft rock I think.

Today we are on a boat trip that promises views of wildlife.
