Exhaust wrap

Sep 29, 2014

The Yamaha Virago 250 was emitting fumes and this was most noticeable when the bike was stationary. I sensed a rather metallic taste in my mouth. Following forum guidance, I put the bike in neutral and ran my hand underneath the bike. I felt a chuffing of gas near the joint of the exhaust. I bought both Gun Gum putty and Gun Gum tape. These were both messy and a little tricky to apply but eventually the pipes at the leak points were covered by an alluring pink bandage.

I have disguised the bandage with adhesive aluminium tape and further secured everything with  hose clips

After a short run the bike seems to be running a bit smoother. However, the real test will be whether I no longer sense the fumes when the bike is idling.
